How to Find Affordable Spring Fashion
PHOENIX – Spring is here. For families, this may mean buying a whole new wardrobe, but the costs add up quickly.
Young children can outgrow their wardrobe in as little as three to six months, and a pre-teen can outgrow their wardrobe in less than a year. To help families stay on trend and on budget, retailers are offering affordable spring fashion. This spring at Walmart, shoppers can find a pair of shorts for $14 and a hoodie for $3.
Nena Billegas, Walmart fashion coach in Scottsdale, Arizona, said the store offers colorful, mix-and-match looks for the whole family.
“Everything is under $40, high quality, in bright colors and ready to go for spring,” Billegas said.
From graphic tees to flowy dresses, this year’s trends include styles that are perfect for everyday life without the high price tag.
“Very versatile, easy-to-put-together outfits,” said Billegas. “It can go from casual to dressy.”
Comfort and style are equally important for children.
“It’s casual and comfortable and kind of fashionable,” Cooper Call said.
Call, a seventh-grader from Mesa, Arizona, said flexibility is important, especially when sharing clothes at home.
“My older sister and I share clothes, and sometimes it’s easier for us to share clothes that we might like or wear,” Call said.
It’s all about looking good and feeling good, said fourth-grader Adrian Sneed of Avondale, Arizona.
“I’m looking for clothes that are comfortable and look good to wear,” said Adrian Sneed.
Walmart’s Polo brand for kids offers items for under $18.
For their moms, the Free Assembly line has floral dresses for less than $34 and cover-up shirts for less than $26.
Adrian’s mother, Kimberly Sneed, says the lower prices make a big difference.
Kimberly Sneed said, “To get a dress for $30, that’s good quality, good deal, perfect for spring and summer.”
To stretch the budget further, thrift stores like Goodwill offer even more discounts.
Mjelma Gashijoko, Goodwill manager of social media and communications, said the store has affordable prices for the whole family.
“You’re looking at prices ranging from $2.99 to about $15 for some nice spring pieces,” Gasijoko said.
Shoppers can find brand-name items, including a new Uniqlo item with tags for $7, a polo shirt for $5 and brand new Gap swimwear. Children’s clothing can be found for as low as $1.99.
With daily deals at Goodwill stores, shoppers can save even more.
“Every day, when you come to the store, there is a specific color on sale,” Gasijoko said. “Get the most for your money when you shop at our store.”
Whether buying secondhand or new, shoppers say their goal is to find affordable dresses that will liven up a spring wardrobe.
“It’s important to find pieces that make you feel good, that are good quality and that will last a long time,” says Kimberly Sneed. “Plus, you know, it fits within the budget and helps you save money as well.”
