Smart home: Ikea Matter devices integrated into SmartThings
Samsung and Ikea are working together to integrate a total of 25 Matter devices from the Swedish furniture company directly into Samsung’s SmartThings platform. These Ikea gadgets can be operated through SmartThings without using the additional Ikea Bridge, Samsung announced.
Ikea devices include various switches, sensors and light sources. Previously, controlling these devices with full functionality through Samsung’s SmartThings required both the SmartThings Hub and the Ikea Smart Home Hub to be powered on. In the future, a SmartThings hub will suffice.
Samsung’s SmartThings will support Matter integration as one of the smart home platforms before the end of 2022. MATTER is a compatibility standard designed to ensure better collaboration between devices and systems from different smart home manufacturers.
Over 20 Ikea Gadgets
Ikea unveiled more than 20 new smart home gadgets with Matter integration in late 2025. These include twelve smart lamps from the Kazeplates product line, which support the white spectrum and RGB colors, depending on the model. Additionally, Ikea has introduced motion detectors and contact sensors, temperature and humidity meters, and an air quality sensor. Other Ikea smart home devices include the Bilresa remote control, which is available with buttons and a rotary knob. These devices are often offered at lower prices than competing products.
The integration of Ikea devices into Samsung SmartThings is an extra step that was really deemed unnecessary. The idea behind Matter is that devices are compatible between systems from different manufacturers without additional development effort. However, buyers of Ikea gadgets have had problems integrating their purchased products into existing systems without the Ikea Hub, The Verge reported.
